Nate's Story
Golf was Nate’s passion! From his first boyhood experience as a caddy at Ridgewood Country Club in Parma, Ohio, he was hooked. Except for his years in the Army during World War II, he spent a life time honing the skills of his game.
Following the war, one of his great memories was caddying at the US Open at Canterbury Golf Club in 1946, where he obtained one of his prized possessions, an autograph from the great Bobby Jones. Nate and Evelyn were married in 1947 and raised a wonderful caring family.
Nate met and overcame challenges all of his life. He met the challenge of conquering the beachhead at Normandy on “D” Day in 1944, and he loved the challenge of competitive golf, winning several amateur championships.
In his later years his memory became a challenge that he could not overcome. Nate and Evelyn came to live at what is now Western Reserve Masonic Community. But Nate, suffering from dementia, eventually needed to be transferred to another facility so he could receive the special care he required.
By participating in the Jim Perry Legends Golf Classic, you are enabling us to provide specialized education for staff and families to help them better address the needs of our residents who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
